My boy

My boy, you are different,

That much is the truth.

The world you see is torturous, loud,

And downright uncouth.

The tender leaf that stings your skin,

The birdsong blares, too sharp, too near.

The sunlight that flickers, so bright, harsh and thin—

A wonderful, horrible, melody of all that you fear.

But my boy, you are different,

And that is not so bad.

You’re unique, you’re special,

You’re my wonderful little boy, and I’m glad.

For the way you see the world,

Holds beauty others might not see.

In that beauty, you’ll find your spark,

A masterpiece waiting to be free.

And though your path may feel uphill,

I’ll walk beside you—steady, still.

Hand in hand, we’ll face the fray,

My boy, my heart, my light each and every day.
