Do we dare

Do we dare deny humanity to those we deem unfit?
Yet turn to humanity’s selfless nature when our own life turns to shit.
Do we dare ignore the pleading cries, while cowering behind indifference?
Senselessly watching people lose their lives, while averting our eyes with persistence.
Do we dare let the suffering exist,
As comfort and privilege tighten their fist?
Do we dare pass judgement on who deserves to live,
While withholding kindness—something we’re so easily able to give?
Do we dare to remain silent, as the world implodes?
Or can the weight of our veiled empathy allow the barriers to erode?
Do we dare to awaken, to break from this trance,
And offer the world an equitable chance?
For if we dare to change, to act and to care,
Perhaps then we'll find the humanity we dare.
